Maritime Classification Societies are institutions that create standard rules which govern vessels and crew. There are more than 50 maritime classification societies worldwide.
These institutions will certify that a particular vessel, operator, or piece of equipment meets the requirements set forth in the organization’s rules. These rules can cover any phase of deployment from design and construction to training and operation.
Certification by a Maritime Classification Society provides assurance to interested parties that a particular element of a maritime operation is in compliance with a classification standard.
